What is Made in the West Midlands?

In essence, it is a distinctive brand that has been created to promote manufacturing in the West Midlands on both the domestic and international stage.

Who is involved?

MIWM is a collaboration of Accelerate (the West Midlands automotive supply chain initiative), Advantage West Midlands, Manufacturing Advisory Service – West Midlands and the University of Central England’s Technology Innovation Centre (tic).

What is it looking to achieve?

Promotion of everything that is good about manufacturing in the region, from the skills and experience through to the innovation and technological advancements that have become the trademark of the West Midlands.

In addition, MIWM will also act as a central point of contact, streamlining access to the various support packages and agencies on offer.

How will it achieve this global promotion?

Made in the West Midlands liaises with the event organisers of major manufacturing shows to create special zones for West Midlands manufacturers. These are usually then offered to the companies at a subsidised rate, with publicity and marketing expertise thrown in free of charge on most occasions.

It has already had a major presence at Midlands Manufacturing 2004 and 2005, Manufacturer Live 2004 and has plans in place to exhibit at the major international shows of Detroit, Paris and Frankfurt.

Are there any other activities?

Lots! Corporate literature and an interactive website have been developed to act as gateways into the brand, whilst a number of projects are currently being explored to take manufacturers overseas to ‘wax lyrical’ about their products and services.

MIWM has also just commissioned a six minute video of the region’s niche vehicle manufacturers, which will be used at exhibitions, trade shows and in one-2-selling with potential investors/customers.
